Cathedral Service
October 7th, 2016
An Invitation by The High Sheriff of West Sussex, Mr Mark Spofforth OBE to a Cathedral Service for HM’s Judges, Magistrates and those working in the community of West Sussex and reception afterwards at The Pallant Suite.
This is an annual occasion and our Secretary, Val Swain, was invited and attended this year’s event on 7th October. It was an honour and a wonderful experience. The collection at the Cathedral was for The Sussex Community Foundation which was founded ten years ago by The Duke of Richmond with the aim of inspiring local people and companies to donate to local charities and thereby to build an endowment fund that would support the community for generations to come. It has given out £10 million to charities across Sussex and has built an endowment fund of £12 million which will provide long term support for local charities.
A selection of groups who had been helped by the Foundation was invited in recognition of their help in the community and Val was invited representing the Chichester Stroke Club which has received funds from the Foundation on several occasions. Val was able to speak to Kevin Richmond, Chief Executive of The Sussex Community Foundation and thank him personally for their continued generosity. He told her that the Chichester Stroke Club was one of the first charities that the Foundation had supported and he often quoted the Club when giving talks.
Val also met The High Sheriff of West Sussex, Mr Mark Spofforth, and thanked him for the invitation and his interest in supporting local charities.
